Class Outing

--- We will have a family outing on October 12 immediately following the worship services. We are planning to go to the Locust Park where the children (young & old) can play. We are going to grill hotdogs for lunch. The hotdogs, buns, slaw, & chili will be purchased ahead of time. We will ask each family to throw in a few dollars to cover that expense. Each family only needs to bring a drink and chips. If you would like to make or buy a dessert to bring that will be fine also. If you or someone in your family does not eat hotdogs you may bring something else for them and we can grill it there. Or just go by Wendy’s or McDonalds on your way. J   If you have any questions or suggestions please contact Crystal Clayton. See you there!

Mission Projects

Habitat for Humanity Re-Store

--- We need volunteers to help load and organize items so they can be sold to benefit the local Habitat for Humanity. We have two dates. October 4 & 11 from 9am – 1pm. There is a maximum of 4 persons for each date. We currently have two people going on the 4th. If you can help please email me.

Meals for Cancer Patient

--- Every Monday night starting on September 22 and going for at least 4-6 weeks our class will provide a meal for the family of a cancer patient in our community. Please contact Rachel Harkey to see when you can help.

Appreciation Meals

--- Our class will be serving a meal for local firefighters on October 14 at 7pm. We are going to have the food catered and we will deliver and serve.  I would like to have several of the men from our class go and help serve. This will be a great outreach opportunity.

Concord Night Shelter

--- Our class will be going to the Concord Night Shelter on Tuesday October 28 at 7pm to help check in and provide the meal. We need volunteers for both. If you would like to help please let me know.

Helping our Troops

--- We are collecting some common everyday items to send to our troops in Iraq. Please try to pickup some of these items during your next trip to the store and leave them in the class. This will be an ongoing project so if we collect more than we need we will ship those items at another time.

Supplies Needed Basic Hygiene: Chap stick, shaving gel, deodorant, bath/body wash, hand sanitizer, nail clippers, lip balm, tooth brush, tooth paste, razors, sunscreen, lotion, foot powder, shampoo, cotton swab, female hygiene products. (NOTE: This unit has 10 men and 3 females.)

Other: cookies, candy bars, nuts, trail mix, jerky, individual Gatorade packs, fruit cups, small can foods, slim jims, gum, protein bars, etc (NOTE: Any food items must be factory packaged and sealed.

Special request: Letters and cards

Coat & Blanket Collection

--- We were able to collect a large quantity of coats for needy families back in the Spring. We have stored these in our class over the summer for distribution in the fall/winter of 2008. If any of you have any more coats or blankets that you would like to share, please bring those to class over the next few weeks. As the weather begins to turn cold we will decide how and where these are needed.
